ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (NABL) Certification for Solid Fuels

Solid Fuel
In today’s world, the fuels are used extensively in some form or another. The fuels are the main source of energy to perform different types of tasks and processes in the world. There are several types of fuels used in today’s world. Mainly fuels are classified in three categories that are Solid fuels, liquid fuels and gaseous fuels. Liquid fuels are the fossil fuels that are used in their liquid form such as petrol, diesel etc. The gaseous fuels are the ones that are in gaseous form when used such as Compressed Natural Gas or CNG.  The solid fuels are the ones that are used in their solid forms. The solid fuels have been used from ancient times and are still being used.
There are different types of solid fuels that are used in different applications that are as follows.

Wood
Wood fuel is one of the most ancient fuels used by human kind. This class of fuel includes firewood, wood sheets, wood chip[s, charcoal, sawdust and pallets. The wood fuel is used vastly for domestic uses such as cooking and heating. Additionally it is used in furnaces for running engines and generating electricity. It is also used for bonfires and campfires as well. The carbon emission through wood is very less and it is equal to the amount of carbon that was sequestered by it during its growth.

Biomass
Biomass is another solid fuel used in many industries. Wood can also be considered as biomass but there are various other forms of solid fuels are iCloud in the biomass. These include the wheat straws, nutshells, and other fibrous materials. These biomass fuels are used in industries to burn in furnaces and to ruin boilers. Although it has low calorific value but it is easily available and the carbon emission from these fuels is very low.

Peat
Peat is the form of solid fuels that is made from partially decayed vegetables and organic matter. When the vegetation is decayed and dried, it can be used as an alternative for fuel. Although it is used at very few placed due to absence of other sources of fuel but the calorific value of the fuel is very and cannot be used for commercial use.

Coal
Coal is the fossil fuel that is found under earth in solid form. It is basically sedimentary rock that is found in coal beds or coal seam.  Coal has also been used from ancient times to burn furnaces and to run boilers. It is also used in modern times for generating electricity. Another used for coal is in the metal industry for refining.
In addition to that, there are other solid fuels such as coke, smokeless fuel, rocket propellant and so forth.

There are many properties of solid fuels that need to be tested to decide its viability for commercial sue such as its latent heat, calorific value, carbon emission  and many others. Without testing these proeprties, right decision about the usage of the fuel cannot be taken.

It is important to test the fuel samples in a competent laboratory so that accurate value of the properties can be found. In order to get the most accurate test results, the testing laboratory where the tests are conducted, must be unaffected by any external; factors and must have all the required equipments. Additionally, the lab must follow all the prescribed procedures for accurate testing data. This can be ensures if the lab has the NABL accreditation and certification for ISO 17025:2017.
